Compressed Air Systems Efficiency Programme

The Compressed Air Systems (CAS) Efficiency Programme consists of separate components for larger and smaller compressed air users:

  • For larger users the programme provides a robust auditing method for accredited auditors to identify efficiency opportunities; and
  • For smaller businesses the programme provides simpler tools to for skilled maintenance service providers to provide a similar outcome.

A properly managed compressed air system not only saves electricity, it also decreases downtime, increases productivity, reduces maintenance, and improves product quality. Evidence from New Zealand and overseas indicates that electricity savings of 10%–20% can be typically achieved through good compressed air system management practices.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority’s CAS Efficiency Programme provides two core schemes for New Zealand businesses:

Larger Systems The CAS Auditor Accreditation Scheme enables businesses with larger, more complex compressed air systems to identify specific efficiency investment opportunities, by giving them access to Accredited CAS Auditors.
Smaller Systems The Air Efficiency Rating Scheme (AERS) is designed for use with businesses that have a single compressor, normally less than 75 kW in capacity. AERS provides tools to assist service providers to score the efficiency of smaller CAS systems.
