Electric Motors
In 2006, a wide-ranging study of electricity efficiency opportunities from electric motors was initiated. From the results of that work and the KEMA electricity efficiency potentials study, a programme was developed aimed at improving the efficiency of the electric motor stock in New Zealand industry.
EECA has three programmes under the heading of electric motors:
The Motor Bounty Scheme focuses on the opportunities for efficient electricity savings from accelerating the rate of replacement of the existing in-service stock of three-phase motors with motors that comply with the 2006 minimum energy performance standard (MEPS 2006).
The Motor Replacement Policy Guide assists managers to develop site-wide business policies to simplify decision-making on the replacement versus retention and repair of three-phase electric motors.
The Motor Rewind Workshop Quality Scheme assists the rewind industry to demonstrate their ability to maintain the efficiency of motors they repair. It also provides motor users with the opportunity to specify the use of ‘certified motor rewinders’ in their service provider policies.
