How It Works
Qualifying criteria
To qualify for a Motor Bounty payment, a motor needs to:
- be a used 3-phase induction motor with an output rating between 22kW and 265kW†;
- have a date of manufacture earlier than 2002; and,
- not be a submersible motor, or a motor that is integral with, or inseparable from, the equipment being driven.
Unless otherwise agreed, you will also need to have installed or commit to installing a MEPS 2006 compliant‡ replacement for the removed motor within 4 weeks of the removed motor being accepted into the Scheme.
The new motor must also be installed in an application whose operational requirements could have been met by the removed motor.
† Motors from 185kW up to and including 265kW will only be accepted into the Scheme when the efficiency of the replacement motor meets or exceeds the MEPS 2006 level for 185kW motors. The Bounty payments in such cases will be based on a motor size of 185kW.
‡ For a motor to be MEPS 2006 compliant, it must meet or exceed the efficiency levels specified in Table A2 (p15) or Table B2 (p19) of AS/NZS 1359.5: 2004.
What do I need to do?
To receive a Bounty payment, you need to:
- identify that the motor(s) meet the qualifying criteria - you can hire (at your cost) an Accredited Service Provider (or another external resource) to assist with this exercise;
- complete a Bounty Scheme Participation Agreement – this only needs to be done once; and,
- select an Accredited Service Provider.
The steps involved in claiming your Motor Bounty are fully explained in a flowchart: Steps to Claiming Your Bounty – Motor Users.
What will the Accredited Service Provider do?
Accredited Service Providers:
- verify the operational status of the motor(s) to be bountied;
- confirm that the motor(s) meet(s) the qualifying criteria;
- arrange bounty payments; and (where required),
- manage the disabling and disposal of bountied motors.
The verification process is generally carried out at your Accredited Service Provider’s premises unless you come to an alternative individual arrangement with the service provider.
